Kicking off a new era...

Times, they are a'changing...or something like that.

The Abilene Mothers of Multiples group has existed for many years, in some form or another – there was a break of several years in the 90’s when the club disbanded, but it later reformed with new members. Many of us have taken part in AMOM meetings, activities, garage sales, Moms’ Nights Out, state conventions, and more – the Abilene club has been a great place to meet other mothers of multiples and make new friends. With the surge of information about raising multiples available online, as well as the rising number of families with multiples, it’s no longer difficult to find answers to questions like “How do I nurse or bottlefeed twins at the same time?” or “How do you take two babies to the pediatrician’s office by yourself?” or even “Will we ever survive the twins’ first year?” In addition, today’s moms are busier than ever – and sometimes you just have to let some activities go in order to better focus on others. We believe that our Abilene Mothers of Multiples Club is one of those things that most of our moms have had to “let go” – attendance at meetings is down, we haven’t been able to host our biannual garage sale for several years now, and we just can’t offer new moms all the things we used to. We’re not blaming anyone, it’s just a fact of life – we all have different things in our lives that we’re called to focus on, and sometimes that means that things have to change.

The Abilene Mothers of Multiples Club is changing our focus, too…we’re going to simply try to meet at least once a month for dinner, and if moms are interested, we may schedule a monthly lunch too, if that’s a better time for some. A number of our AMOMs really enjoy going to the state MOM convention each year, and we’ll remain a member of the state group so that we can still take part in that. (No more club dues - we'll just split the state dues between the moms who go to convention each year, however many that happens to be.)

We’ll maintain a presence on the Web, so that if new moms are looking for contact information and have questions about having multiples, we’ll still be able to help, and will also be sure that local pediatricians and hospitals have our contact information. We just won’t have monthly meetings, playdates, garage sales, and other “official” things like that – most of which, except for the meetings, aren’t happening and haven’t for some time.
